Dr Mary-Anne Hartley (MD, PhD, MPH) is a South African clinician and biomedical data scientist. She leads the Intelligent Global Health research group at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL). Her research focuses on creating implementable data-driven digital health tools designed for low-resource settings, primarily in Sub-Saharan Africa. iGH also has a strong focus on academic capacity building in impactful machine learning, hosting over 30 students per year in research projects as well as in exchanges between EPFL and several African-based academic institutions. Clinically, she practices in a volunteer capacity in a rural hospital in South Africa for several months a year.
